Us vs. Them depicts an ongoing battle between good and evil, waged over the fate of humanity. Blue figures represent forces of good—beings from the celestial or spiritual realm—while black illustrations embody forces of evil rooted in the material world. The forces of good work to protect and rescue, while the forces of evil seek to consume and devour.
On one side, a blue stream of light forms a road of safety leading to a multifaceted door. On the reverse, a fearsome beast—though chained—still poses a threat, as winged vessels led by shooting stars carry homes and souls to safety. The form of the sculpture itself includes a neck reminiscent of a throat or esophagus, suggesting that all of this is unfolding within a crucible—an interior space of chaos that we, collectively, have been swallowed into.
